Zubereitung von Gluhwein
- In a large pot, combine 1 bottle (750ml) of dry red wine (such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot).
- Add 4 cinnamon sticks.
- Cut 1 lemon and 1 orange in half.
- Stud each fruit half with 5 whole cloves.
- Add the studded lemon and orange halves to the wine.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Then, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Remove the lemon and orange halves. Remove the cloves. Squeeze the juice from the fruit halves back into the wine.
- Stir in 1/4 cup (60ml) dark rum (optional).
- Add 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar (or to taste). Stir until dissolved. Alternatively, add sugar to individual mugs.
- Serve warm in heatproof mugs. Enjoy responsibly – this drink is best savored at home!
- Unused portions can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. Reheat gently before serving.
- Keep warm on a very low burner or use a chafing dish to maintain serving temperature.
