Ingredients for 5 Spice Tilapia

  • Tilapia Fillet
  • Five Spice Powder
  • Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
  • Light Brown Sugar
  • Canola Oil
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced (about 2 tablespoons)

How to Make 5 Spice Tilapia

  1. Sprinkle both sides of the tilapia fillets (about 1 pound) with 1 teaspoon five-spice powder.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable or canola) in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tilapia fillets and cook until the edges are opaque and lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low. Turn the fish over, add the soy sauce mixture to the skillet, and stir to combine.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer, and cook until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly, about 2-3 minutes more. The internal temperature of the fish should reach 145°F (63°C).
  7. Stir in 2 chopped scallions (about 2 tablespoons) and remove from the heat.
  8. Serve immediately, drizzled with the delicious sauce.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
