Ingredients for African Style Rice

  • Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Coriander Powder
  • Turmeric Powder

How to Make African Style Rice

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 cup of long-grain rice and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until lightly golden.
  2. Add 2 cups of chicken broth, 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
  4. **Important:** Do not lift the lid during cooking! Set a timer to avoid peeking.
  5. After 20 minutes, remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving alongside your favorite protein, such as our Easy African-Style Peanut Chicken!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
