Ingredients for Almost A Candy Bar

  • Refrigerated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup your favorite trail mix bars, broken into pieces
  • ½ cup butterscotch chips
  • Miniature Marshmallows
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • Miniature Pretzels
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • Light Corn Syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Milk Chocolate Chips

How to Make Almost A Candy Bar

  1. Let the dough stand at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of dough and 1 cup of your favorite trail mix bars.
  3. Press the mixture into an ungreased 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
  4. Bake, uncovered, at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle evenly with ½ cup butterscotch chips and ½ cup mini marshmallows.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for 3-4 minutes, or until marshmallows begin to brown slightly.
  7. Sprinkle with ½ cup chopped walnuts.
  8. Arrange pretzel sticks over the top.
  9. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup peanut butter chips, ¼ cup light corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons butter. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  10. Evenly spoon the melted peanut butter mixture over the bars.
  11. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  12. Transfer the melted chocolate to a small zip-top bag. Snip a tiny corner off the bag.
  13. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the peanut butter layer.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until completely firm, before cutting into bars.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
