Ingredients for Asian Salmon Burgers

  • Skinless Salmon Fillet
  • Whole Wheat Bread Crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
  • Dark Sesame Oil
  • 2 scallions (finely chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons grated fresh ginger (reserve 2 tbsp for topping)
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • Whole Grain Buns
  • Baby Spinach

How to Make Asian Salmon Burgers

  1. Prepare all ingredients.
  2. Combine 1 pound salmon fillet (skin removed and roughly chopped), 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs, 1 large egg, 2 cloves garlic (minced), 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 2 scallions (finely chopped), and 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger in a food processor.
  3. Pulse until the mixture is coarsely chopped but still holds its texture; do not over-process.
  4. Gently form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Sprinkle the tops of the patties generously with sesame seeds.
  6. Heat a large nonstick skillet or frying pan over medium heat and coat with cooking spray.
  7. Place the patties in the pan, sesame-seed-side down.
  8. Cook for 5 minutes, undisturbed.
  9. Carefully flip the patties and cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and the patties are golden brown.
  10. While the burgers cook, prepare your buns and toppings.
  11. Serve the Asian Salmon Burgers immediately on toasted buns. Top with a handful of fresh spinach and 2 tablespoons of pickled ginger per burger.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
