How to Make Awesome Brownies
- Melt 1/2 cup shortening and 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder together in the microwave (in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth) or over a double boiler.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- In a large bowl, beat 2 large eggs until light and frothy.
- Gradually add 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar to the beaten eggs, beating until well combined.
- Add the melted cocoa mixture to the egg and sugar mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
- The batter will be thick.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
