How to Make Baked Apple Butter Sugar Free

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Peel, core, and chop 6 pounds of apples. (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix work well)
  3. In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, combine the chopped apples with 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground allspice.
  5. Stir well to ensure all apples are evenly coated.
  6. Cover the pot and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours.
  7. After 2 hours, remove the lid and stir the apples gently.
  8. Continue baking, uncovered, for another 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the apples are very soft and easily mashed.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.
  10. Use an immersion blender or potato masher to mash the apples until smooth. Alternatively, carefully transfer the apples to a food processor and puree until smooth.
  11. Taste and adjust spices as needed. If you like a more tart apple butter, add more apple cider vinegar. For a deeper cinnamon flavor, add more cinnamon.
  12. Transfer the finished apple butter to clean jars. Allow to cool completely before sealing.
  13. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
