Ingredients for Best Baked Potato
- Russet Potato
- Canola Oil
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
How to Make Best Baked Potato
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and position oven racks in the upper and lower thirds.
- Thoroughly scrub one large russet potato (about 1 pound) with a stiff brush under cold running water.
- Pat the potato completely dry. Using a fork, pierce 8-12 deep holes all over the potato to allow steam to escape.
- Place the potato in a small bowl. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon olive oil and toss gently to coat.
- Sprinkle generously with 1 teaspoon kosher salt.
- Place the oiled potato directly on the oven rack in the middle of the oven.
- Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drippings.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the skin is crisp and the flesh is tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Using a fork, create a dotted line down the center of the potato. Gently squeeze the ends towards each other to crack open the potato. (Watch out for escaping steam!)
- Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
