Ingredients for Cheese And Vegemite Scrolls

  • Self Raising Flour
  • 10g salt
  • 100g unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 150-200ml milk (adjust as needed)
  • 2-3 tablespoons Vegemite
  • Tasty Cheese

How to Make Cheese And Vegemite Scrolls

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. Sift 500g plain flour and 10g salt into a large bowl.
  3. Cut in 100g chilled, cubed butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Gradually stir in 150-200ml milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add more milk if needed to achieve a soft, slightly sticky dough.
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and knead the dough gently for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  6. Roll out the dough into a 40cm x 25cm rectangle.
  7. Spread 2-3 tablespoons of Vegemite evenly over the dough.
  8. Sprinkle 112.5g of the grated cheese (3/4 of the total) over the Vegemite.
  9. Tightly roll the dough up along the long side to enclose the filling.
  10. Cut the roll into 10 pieces, each approximately 4cm wide.
  11. Place the pieces cut-side up, close together, on a greased baking tray.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining 37.5g of grated cheese over the scrolls.
  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Keep an eye on them, as ovens vary.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
