Ingredients for Chewy English Flapjack
- 300g porridge oats
- 175g unsalted butter
- Golden Syrup
- 175g caster sugar
- Chocolate Chips
- Raisins
- Nuts
How to Make Chewy English Flapjack
- Combine 175g butter, 175g caster sugar, and 175ml golden syrup in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the melted mixture into a large mixing bowl. Add 300g porridge oats and your choice of optional ingredients (see below). Mix well to combine.
- Line a 20cm square baking tin with baking paper. Pour the flapjack mixture into the prepared tin and spread evenly using the back of a spoon.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (160°C fan/Gas Mark 4) for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and set. A skewer inserted into the center should come out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Let the flapjack cool slightly in the tin before cutting into squares. Cutting while still warm prevents it from becoming too hard.
- Enjoy warm, or allow to cool completely for a firmer texture. For an extra chocolatey treat, melt 100g of dark chocolate and drizzle over the cooled flapjack.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
