How to Make Chocolate Trifle

  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the package directions. Let cool completely.
  2. Prepare the chocolate pudding according to package directions. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Once the cake is completely cool, crumble it into coarse crumbs using your hands or a food processor.
  4. Reserve 1/2 cup of cake crumbs for the topping.
  5. In a 4 1/2- or 5-quart trifle dish or decorative glass bowl, place half of the remaining cake crumbs.
  6. Layer with half of the cooled coffee, half of the chocolate pudding, half of the whipped topping, and half of the crushed candy bars.
  7. Repeat layers: cake crumbs, coffee, pudding, whipped topping.
  8. Combine the reserved 1/2 cup of cake crumbs with the remaining crushed candy bars.
  9. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top of the trifle.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 4-5 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld and the trifle to chill thoroughly before serving.
