How to Make From Scratch Turtle Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup light corn syrup, 1/4 cup water, 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour.
  5. Add 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted, and 2 large eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 cup chopped pecans.
  7. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan. Spread evenly.
  8. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter. Top with the remaining brownie batter and the rest of the caramel sauce. Swirl gently with a knife or toothpick.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  10. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
