How to Make Kitchenaid Honey Oatmeal Bread

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup warm water, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/4 cup margarine. Heat over low heat until the mixture is very warm.
  2. In your KitchenAid mixer bowl, combine 5 cups flour, 1 cup rolled oats, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, and 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast.
  3. Using the dough hook, mix on speed 2 for about 15 seconds.
  4. Gradually add the warm water mixture to the dry ingredients while mixing on speed 2 for 1 minute.
  5. Add 2 large eggs and mix for 1 minute longer.
  6. With the mixer still on speed 2, add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing for about 2 minutes, or until the dough clings to the hook and cleans the side of the bowl.
  7. Knead on speed 2 for about 2 minutes longer.
  8. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place, free from drafts, for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  9. Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
  10. Shape each half into a loaf.
  11. Place the loaves in greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch baking pans.
  12. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 large egg white and 1 tablespoon water.
  13. Brush the tops of the loaves with the egg white mixture.
  14. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup rolled oats.
  15. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes.
  16. Remove from pans immediately and cool completely on wire racks.
