How to Make Mixed Up Popcorn

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine 10 cups popped popcorn, 2 cups Chex cereal (or similar), 1 cup salted peanuts, and 1 cup pecan halves.
  3. In a heavy 2-3 quart saucepan, combine 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and 1/4 cup light corn syrup.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a rolling boil.
  5. Boil for exactly 5 minutes without stirring.
  6. Remove from heat and immediately stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon baking soda. The mixture will foam up.
  7. Pour the hot sugar mixture evenly over the popcorn mixture in the large bowl.
  8. Gently stir to coat all the popcorn, cereal, and nuts completely.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a large greased baking sheet or roasting pan.
  10. Bake for 1 hour, stirring halfway through to ensure even baking and browning.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool completely on waxed paper.
  12. Once completely cool, add your favorite M&Ms and/or pretzel sticks.
  13. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week (if it lasts that long!).
  14. Enjoy!
