How to Make New Year's Eve Red Sangria

  1. Slice 1 orange and 1 lemon into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  2. Place the orange and lemon slices in a 3-quart pitcher. Pour 1 cup of dark rum over the fruit.
  3. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the fruit to infuse.
  4. Add 1/2 cup Grand Marnier (or 1/4 cup Chambord for a unique twist), 1 bottle (750ml) Rioja wine, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/4 cup pomegranate juice, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, and 1/4 cup granulated sugar to the pitcher.
  5. Gently stir in club soda or sparkling water, leaving about 2 inches of space at the top of the pitcher.
  6. Stir well, gently pressing the fruit to release its juices.
  7. Serve immediately over ice. Garnish with extra fruit slices if desired.
  8. Fruit can be reused for additional batches! Simply add more rum and repeat from step 4.
