  1. Bring 6 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot. Add pasta and cook according to package directions.
  2. While pasta cooks, prepare the herb sauce: Combine 1/2 cup packed fresh basil, 1/4 cup packed fresh parsley, 2 cloves garlic, 1/4 small yellow onion, and the zest of 1 lemon on a cutting board.
  3. Finely chop the herbs, garlic, and onion until the garlic is about 1/4 inch in size.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the herb mixture to the skillet. Reduce heat to medium and sauté for 5 minutes, or until lightly golden, seasoning with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  6. Set the sauce aside while the pasta finishes cooking.
