Ingredients for A Very Simple Berry Sauce
- Frozen Blueberries
- Splenda Granular
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
How to Make A Very Simple Berry Sauce
- Gently combine 2 cups of your favorite berries (fresh or frozen) in a medium saucepan over low-medium heat. No need to add water; the berries will release their juices as they thaw.
- If you prefer a sweeter sauce, stir in 2-4 tablespoons of granulated sugar or splenda to taste. We recommend starting with 2 tablespoons and adding more as needed.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries are thawed and the sugar/splenda has completely dissolved. This should take about 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of cold water and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until completely smooth and there are no lumps.
- Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the berry mixture. Continue to simmer and stir gently for another 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Try to keep as many berries whole as possible during this process.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for larger batches. Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
