How to Make A W Chili Dogs

  1. Brown 1 lb ground chuck in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Do not drain the fat.
  2. Add 1 medium onion (chopped), 1 (15-ounce) can of tomato sauce, 1 (15-ounce) can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 1 (10-ounce) can of diced tomatoes and green chilies (undrained), 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional).
  3. Bring to a simmer, uncovered, and cook for 30-45 minutes, or until the chili has thickened, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat, cover, and refrigerate until ready to use.
  5. Bring 2 quarts of water to a rolling boil in a separate saucepan. Remove from heat and add 8-10 frankfurters.
  6. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
  7. While the franks are simmering, microwave the desired amount of chili for 1-2 minutes, or until steaming.
  8. Microwave each hot dog roll for 10 seconds to warm.
  9. Remove the cooked franks with tongs and place them on the warmed hot dog buns.
  10. Top with approximately 3 tablespoons of the prepared chili, chopped onions, and grated cheddar cheese (optional).
