Ingredients for All Purpose Chicken Broth From The Crock Pot

  • Onion
  • Carrot
  • Celery Rib
  • One whole 3-4 lb chicken (or approximately 2 lbs chicken quarters)
  • Chicken Broth

How to Make All Purpose Chicken Broth From The Crock Pot

  1. Place 2 large carrots (chopped), 2 celery stalks (chopped), and 1 medium onion (quartered) in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Place one whole 3-4 lb chicken (or 2 lbs chicken quarters), neck up, on top of the vegetables.
  3. Season generously with salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs (optional – thyme, bay leaf, parsley are great choices).
  4. Pour 8 cups of water over the chicken and vegetables. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours until chicken is cooked through.
  5. Carefully remove the chicken from the pot and let it cool completely before shredding.
  6. Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Skim off excess fat from the surface.
  7. This broth is double strength. Dilute with an equal amount of water (8 cups) for standard strength broth, or adjust to your preferred taste.
  8. Once cool, shred the chicken meat, discarding skin and bones. This shredded chicken is also perfect for salads or other recipes!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
