How to Make Anne's Chocolate Fudge Frosting

  1. Fill the bottom of a double boiler with 2 inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat.

  3. Stir occasionally until the chocolate and shortening are completely melted and smooth.
  4. Gradually whisk in 3 cups (360g) of granulated sugar, a little at a time, ensuring each addition is fully incorporated before adding more.
  5. Stir in 1/2 cup (120ml) of milk.
  6. Remove the top of the double boiler from the heat.
  7. Pour the mixture into a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer for 5-7 minutes, or until the frosting is thick, creamy, and reaches desired consistency.
  8. Frost your cake! Spread about 1/3 of the frosting between the layers and use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.
