Ingredients for Apple Cherry Fruit Spread
- Fuji Apples
- Dried Cherries
- ½ cup apple juice (or other fruit juice)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Zest of 1 lemon
How to Make Apple Cherry Fruit Spread
- Peel, core, and chop 4 medium apples (about 4 cups chopped). Pit 2 cups fresh cherries.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped apples, cherries, ½ cup apple juice (or other fruit juice), 1 cinnamon stick, and a pinch of ground cinnamon.
- Cover the saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
- Uncover the saucepan and reduce the heat to low. Continue to cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are very soft but still hold their shape. Stir occasionally.
- Remove the cinnamon stick from the saucepan.
- Add the zest of 1 lemon to the apple mixture.
- Carefully transfer the apple mixture to a blender or food processor. Puree until you reach your desired consistency, leaving some chunks for a more textured spread.
- Allow the spread to cool completely.
- Once cooled, chill the fruit spread in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
