How to Make Apple Pie Baked In The Apple

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Carefully cut the top off of 4 medium-sized apples (about 2 inches in diameter). Remove and discard the tops.
  3. Gently scoop out the inside of each apple using a spoon, being careful not to puncture the skin. Leave about 1/4 inch of apple flesh near the peel.
  4. Peel and thinly slice 2 additional medium-sized apples.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced apples with 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Adjust to your preferred sweetness and spice level.
  6. Fill each hollowed apple generously with the apple mixture.
  7. Roll out 1 (14.1 ounce) package of refrigerated pie crust and cut it into 1/4-inch wide strips.
  8. Arrange the pie crust strips over the top of each filled apple in a lattice pattern.
  9. Place the apples in an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  10. Pour 1/2 cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  11. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, covered.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
