Ingredients for Apple Puff Squares

  • Puff Pastry
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • Soft Brown Sugar
  • Ground Mixed Spice
  • Granny Smith Apples

How to Make Apple Puff Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons melted butter, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Brush half of this mixture over the pastry squares.
  4. Peel, core, and thinly slice 2 medium apples (about 1 cup sliced apples).
  5. Arrange apple slices on top of the pastry squares, leaving a 1cm border.
  6. Brush the remaining butter mixture over the apples.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Let cool slightly before cutting each square in half for serving.
  9. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or custard.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
