How to Make Arabic Coffee The Saudi Way

  1. Add 3 cups of water to a small pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add 6 tablespoons of finely ground Arabic coffee to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce heat to low, and gently simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  4. Remove from heat and let the coffee steep undisturbed for 5 minutes to allow the grounds to settle.
  5. Carefully pour the coffee into a small kettle or serving pot, leaving the coffee grounds behind in the original pot.
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom and a pinch (about 1/8 teaspoon) of saffron threads to the kettle.
  7. Gently heat the coffee in the kettle until it is just about to simmer (do not boil vigorously at this stage).
  8. Serve immediately in small traditional coffee cups, sweetening to taste with sugar or honey.
