Ingredients for Baby S First Applesauce Cake And Petit Fours

  • Canola Oil
  • Unbleached All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Ground Nutmeg
  • Unsweetened Applesauce
  • Pure Maple Syrup
  • Cider Vinegar
  • Frozen Apple Juice Concentrate

How to Make Baby S First Applesauce Cake And Petit Fours

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9x13 inch baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the applesauce, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, frost the cake layers with your favorite frosting (recipe not included).
  10. Cut the cake into 16 squares (for halved recipe). A full recipe will yield approximately 32 smaller pieces though cutting that small may be difficult. The full recipe also yields 20 petit fours (recipe not included).
  11. Enjoy your delicious and healthy treat!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
