  • Cooked Bacon
  • Salt

How to Make Bacon And Tomato Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup warm water (105-115°F), 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon, 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes, and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place the dough in the prepared loaf pan and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
