How to Make Baklavas Light Version

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup finely chopped walnuts, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Mix well.
  3. Lightly brush the bottom of a 9x13 inch parallelogram baking dish with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  4. Lay down one sheet of phyllo pastry. Gently brush with olive oil. Fold up the sides about 1 inch.
  5. Repeat with two more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with oil and folding sides.
  6. Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
  7. Layer the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each one with olive oil and folding sides in. Trim any overhanging phyllo with a sharp knife.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the top layer of phyllo into medium-sized diamond shapes (approximately 4cm apart).
  9. Bake for 50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with 1/4 cup of honey.
  11. While the honey is still warm, carefully press one whole clove into the center of each diamond-shaped piece of baklava.
