How to Make Baklavas Light Version
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup finely chopped walnuts, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Mix well.
- Lightly brush the bottom of a 9x13 inch parallelogram baking dish with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
- Lay down one sheet of phyllo pastry. Gently brush with olive oil. Fold up the sides about 1 inch.
- Repeat with two more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with oil and folding sides.
- Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
- Layer the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each one with olive oil and folding sides in. Trim any overhanging phyllo with a sharp knife.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the top layer of phyllo into medium-sized diamond shapes (approximately 4cm apart).
- Bake for 50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with 1/4 cup of honey.
- While the honey is still warm, carefully press one whole clove into the center of each diamond-shaped piece of baklava.
