Ingredients for Balsamic Syrup Over Strawberries
- Balsamic Vinegar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Strawberry
How to Make Balsamic Syrup Over Strawberries
- Combine 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar and 1/4 cup granulated sugar in a small, non-reactive saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Reduce the heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 10-12 minutes, or until the mixture has reduced to a syrupy consistency and coats the back of a spoon (approximately 1/2 cup).
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Allow the glaze to cool completely. This will help it thicken further. You can speed up this process by placing the saucepan in an ice bath.
- Drizzle the balsamic glaze generously over fresh strawberries, other berries, or your favorite melon. It also makes a fantastic topping for ice cream or pound cake!
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
