Ingredients for Banana Raita

  • Butter
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Cardamom Seed
  • Ground Coriander
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • Nonfat Plain Yogurt

How to Make Banana Raita

  1. In a medium bowl, mash 2 ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth.
  2. Gently stir in 1 cup plain yogurt until well combined.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon lemon juice (or orange/lime juice to taste) and mix thoroughly.
  4. In a small bowl, lightly crush ½ teaspoon cardamom pods and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon with a mortar and pestle (or the back of a spoon).
  5. Stir the crushed spices into the banana mixture.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or citrus as needed. You can add a pinch of sugar or more lemon juice, if desired.
  7. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. The longer it chills, the better it tastes!
  8. Garnish with chopped pistachios or a sprinkle of extra cinnamon before serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
