How to Make Cherry Spiced Cider

  1. In a large saucepan (or slow cooker), combine 4 cups apple cider, 1 cup orange juice, 1/2 cup maraschino cherry juice, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 orange (peeled and zested), 6 whole cloves, and 1 teaspoon allspice berries.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat (if using a stovetop). If using a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and cook on low for 2-3 hours or high for 1-1.5 hours.
  3. Reduce heat to low (stovetop) and simmer gently for 15 minutes, or continue cooking on low until desired flavors meld (slow cooker).
  4. Remove from heat (stovetop) or turn off slow cooker. Carefully strain the cider through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids (cinnamon sticks, orange peel, cloves, and allspice).
  5. Place 2 maraschino cherries and 1/2 orange slice in each of six mugs.
  6. Pour approximately 2/3 cup of the warm spiced cider into each mug over the cherries and orange slices.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy the festive flavors!
