How to Make Chocolate Covered Toffee Matzo Matzah

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange matzo sheets on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue boiling for 2-3 minutes, or until the mixture reaches 245°F (118°C) on a candy thermometer and coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Quickly and evenly brush the melted brown sugar mixture onto both sides of each matzo sheet.
  6. Bake for 3-4 minutes, or until the edges of the matzo are lightly golden and the toffee begins to bubble.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm matzo.
  8. Place the baking sheet back in the oven for 1-2 minutes, or until the chocolate chips are melted.
  9. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the matzo using a spatula or knife.
  10. If desired, sprinkle with chopped nuts.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set and firm.
  12. Break into pieces and serve. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
