How to Make Italian Spaghetti Sauce By Audrey M
- Brown 1 lb Italian sausage (removed from casings) and 1 lb ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Break up the meat as it cooks. Add 1 large onion, chopped, and 4 cloves garlic, minced, and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain off any excess grease from the skillet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 28 oz crushed tomatoes, 15 oz tomato sauce, 6 oz tomato paste, 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp dried basil, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 bay leaf, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and 2 tbsp olive oil. Stir in the cooked meat mixture.
- Transfer the sauce to a 4-quart slow cooker. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, or until the flavors have melded.
- Remove the bay leaf before serving.
- Serve over your favorite pasta. Garnish with extra fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
