How to Make Lemonade

  1. In a 1-quart saucepan, combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 1/4 cups hot water.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar is completely dissolved (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. While the sugar syrup simmers, zest 1 tablespoon of lemon peel from 2-3 lemons using a microplane or fine grater.
  4. Add the lemon zest to the warm sugar syrup. Remove from heat.
  5. Let the syrup cool completely (about 10 minutes).
  6. Cut 2-3 lemons in half and juice them, aiming for 1 3/4 cups of fresh lemon juice.
  7. Add the fresh lemon juice to the cooled sugar syrup and stir well to combine.
  8. Fill a pitcher with ice cubes. Add the lemon syrup mixture and 1 cup of ice-cold water.
  9. Gently stir in 2-3 lemon slices. Pour into glasses and garnish with fresh mint sprigs.
