  8. Gently mix the shredded pieces of the second pile of toast into the apple mixture.
  9. Loosely arrange the apple and bread mixture over the buttered bread in the pie dish.
  10. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 large eggs, 2 cups (475ml) milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  11. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the apple and bread mixture in the pie dish.
