Reduce heat to medium, add 2 tablespoons butter, 1 large chopped carrot, 1 large chopped onion, 2 chopped celery stalks, 2 minced garlic cloves, 2 bay leaves, 1 teaspoon dried marjoram, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and the zest of 1 lemon.
- Sauté the vegetables for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
