Ingredients for Agua Fresca
- Cantaloupe
- Cold Water
- ½ cup granulated sugar (or to taste; can substitute with agave or honey)
How to Make Agua Fresca
- Cut approximately 4 cups of your favorite melon into chunks. (Cantaloupe, honeydew, Santa Claus melon all work wonderfully!)
- If using a blender, add the melon chunks and approximately 1 cup of water. Blend until you achieve a coarse pulp. If using a juicer (like a Lalane juicer), juice the melon thoroughly.
- Pour the melon pulp or juice into a large pitcher.
- Add 1 cup of water and ½ cup of granulated sugar (or to taste). You can substitute with other sweeteners like agave or honey.
- Stir vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill thoroughly before serving. Garnish with fresh mint or melon balls for an extra touch of elegance.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
