How to Make Apple Turkey Burgers
- In a large bowl, combine 1 pound ground turkey, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1/4 cup breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- Gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties (about 3/4 inch thick).
- In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup chili sauce and 1/4 cup apple jelly.
- Cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jelly is melted and the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Preheat broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with foil.
- Place turkey patties on the prepared baking sheet.
- Broil for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the patties are cooked through.
- While the burgers are broiling, lightly toast your burger buns (optional).
- Place cooked patties on the bottom halves of the buns.
- Top each burger with 2 tablespoons of the apple chili sauce.
- Cover with the top halves of the buns.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
