Ingredients for Apple Turkey Burgers

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • Red Apple
  • Green Onions
  • Lemon Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Apple Pie Spice
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple jelly
  • Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns

How to Make Apple Turkey Burgers

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 pound ground turkey, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1/4 cup breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
  2. Gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties (about 3/4 inch thick).
  4. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup chili sauce and 1/4 cup apple jelly.
  5. Cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jelly is melted and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. Preheat broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  8. Place turkey patties on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Broil for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the patties are cooked through.
  10. While the burgers are broiling, lightly toast your burger buns (optional).
  11. Place cooked patties on the bottom halves of the buns.
  12. Top each burger with 2 tablespoons of the apple chili sauce.
  13. Cover with the top halves of the buns.
  14. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
