  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup buttermilk, 1/4 cup bacon grease (reserved from step 1), 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  3. Gently stir in the crumbled bacon.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours to allow flavors to meld. Stir before serving.
