  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup whipped cream

How to Make Bananas Foster Trifle With Blueberries

  1. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 4 ripe bananas, sliced, and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until lightly browned. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of rum (optional, or substitute with vanilla extract) to the pan and carefully ignite to flambé (if using rum; be cautious!). Let the alcohol burn off completely.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Prepare two 3.4 ounce boxes of instant vanilla pudding and two 3.4 ounce boxes of instant chocolate pudding according to package directions using 2 cups of low-fat milk for each flavor.
  5. Set puddings aside to cool.
  6. In a trifle bowl or clear serving dish, layer half of the ladyfingers.
  7. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of rum (or substitute) over the ladyfingers.
  8. Sprinkle 1/2 cup fresh blueberries over the ladyfingers.
  9. Spread half of the prepared vanilla pudding evenly over the blueberries.
  10. Top with half of the cooked Bananas Foster.
  11. Spread half of the chocolate pudding over the bananas.
  12. Top with half of the whipped cream (1 cup).
  13. Repeat layers with remaining ladyfingers, rum (or substitute), blueberries, puddings, Bananas Foster, and whipped cream.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld.
  15. Garnish with extra cinnamon and brown sugar before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
