Ingredients for Bean And Banana Dip

  • Chorizo Sausages
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Poblano Chiles
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • Kidney Beans
  • 1 ripe medium banana
  • Tortilla Chips

How to Make Bean And Banana Dip

  1. In a large saucepan, sauté 1 pound of your favorite sausage (Italian sausage recommended) over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent sticking and break up the meat.
  2. Add 1 medium onion, chopped, and continue to sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add 2 cloves garlic, minced; 1-2 jalapeños, seeded and minced (adjust to your spice preference); and 1 (14.5 ounce) can of tomato sauce. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in 2 (15 ounce) cans of your favorite beans (kidney or black beans recommended), drained and rinsed, and 1 ripe medium banana, mashed. Add enough bean liquid to reach your desired dip consistency. Start with 1/4 cup and add more as needed.
  5. Mash the beans slightly with a spoon or potato masher until you reach your desired texture. Mix all ingredients well.
  6. Cover and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve warm with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
