Ingredients for Beef Hotpot Pie

  • 500g beef cubes (stewing steak or similar)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • Diced Tomatoes With Juice
  • Corn Kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Beef Stock Cube
  • Puff Pastry

How to Make Beef Hotpot Pie

  1. Brown 500g beef cubes in a pan (optional, for deeper flavor).
  2. Place browned beef (or raw beef), 1 large chopped onion, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 400g canned diced tomatoes, 1 cup frozen corn, and 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce into your slow cooker.
  3. Crumble 1 beef stock cube over the mixture.
  4. Stir gently to combine. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours, until beef is very tender.
  5. Preheat oven to 230°C (200°C fan/gas mark 7).
  6. Transfer the slow cooker contents to an ovenproof casserole dish.
  7. Top with your favorite ready-made pastry (approx. 1 sheet). Pinch edges to seal and create a decorative edge. You can also make your own pastry.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
