How to Make Gramma's Fudge

  1. In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine 2 cups granulated sugar, 1 cup milk, and 1/2 cup margarine. Stir to combine.
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Continue boiling for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage (235-240°F on a candy thermometer).
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and immediately stir in 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 cup peanut butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir until the chocolate and peanut butter are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour the fudge mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  5. Let the fudge cool and set completely at room temperature for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm.
  6. Once set, cut into squares and enjoy! Yields approximately 5 pounds.
