How to Make Bacon Walnut Green Beans
- Wash and trim 1 pound of fresh green beans.
- Place green beans in a large saucepan and cover with 3 cups of water.
- Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes, or until crisp-tender.
- While the beans cook, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over low to medium heat.
- Add 2 cloves of minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 2 minutes, or until fragrant and tender. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves.
- Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce to the skillet.
- Cook for 2 minutes, or until the sugar is completely dissolved and the sauce slightly thickens.
- Drain the cooked green beans well.
- Add the drained green beans to the skillet with the sauce.
- Cook and stir for 2 minutes, or until the green beans are heated through and coated in the sauce.
- Stir in 1/4 cup of cooked crumbled bacon and 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts.
- Toss gently to combine. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
