Ingredients for Bacon Walnut Green Beans

  • Fresh Green Beans
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Roasted Garlic Cloves
  • Fresh Thyme
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Cooked Bacon
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

How to Make Bacon Walnut Green Beans

  1. Wash and trim 1 pound of fresh green beans.
  2. Place green beans in a large saucepan and cover with 3 cups of water.
  3. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes, or until crisp-tender.
  4. While the beans cook, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over low to medium heat.
  5. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 2 minutes, or until fragrant and tender. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce to the skillet.
  8. Cook for 2 minutes, or until the sugar is completely dissolved and the sauce slightly thickens.
  9. Drain the cooked green beans well.
  10. Add the drained green beans to the skillet with the sauce.
  11. Cook and stir for 2 minutes, or until the green beans are heated through and coated in the sauce.
  12. Stir in 1/4 cup of cooked crumbled bacon and 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts.
  13. Toss gently to combine. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
