How to Make Rum Dulce De Leche
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
- Pour one (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Cover tightly with aluminum foil, ensuring no water seeps in.
- Place the pie plate in a larger roasting pan. Carefully pour enough boiling water into the roasting pan to come halfway up the sides of the pie plate.
- Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the dulce de leche is thick and a deep golden brown color.
- Check the water level around the pie plate after 45 minutes. If necessary, carefully add more boiling water to maintain the water level.
- Carefully remove the pie plate from the roasting pan using oven mitts. Let the dulce de leche cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once completely cooled, stir in 1/4 cup of dark rum and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
- Your Rum Dulce De Leche can be made up to 2 days in advance. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
