How to Make Super Spicy Stuffed Sausage Shells
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook 1 pound jumbo pasta shells according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- While pasta cooks, brown 1 pound Italian sausage (removed from casings) in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until thoroughly cooked and browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage with 1 (24 ounce) jar of your favorite marinara sauce, 1 (15 ounce) container of ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more, to taste!), 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Gently stir the mixture until well combined.
- Pour 1/2 cup of marinara sauce into the bottom of a 9x12 inch baking dish.
- Fill each pasta shell with approximately 1-2 tablespoons of the sausage mixture. Arrange the stuffed shells in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the stuffed shells.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and sprinkle 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the shells are heated through.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy with a side salad and garlic bread!
