How to Make Super Spicy Stuffed Sausage Shells

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook 1 pound jumbo pasta shells according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. While pasta cooks, brown 1 pound Italian sausage (removed from casings) in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until thoroughly cooked and browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage with 1 (24 ounce) jar of your favorite marinara sauce, 1 (15 ounce) container of ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more, to taste!), 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Gently stir the mixture until well combined.
  6. Pour 1/2 cup of marinara sauce into the bottom of a 9x12 inch baking dish.
  7. Fill each pasta shell with approximately 1-2 tablespoons of the sausage mixture. Arrange the stuffed shells in the prepared baking dish.
  8. Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the stuffed shells.
  9. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and sprinkle 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  11. Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the shells are heated through.
  12. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy with a side salad and garlic bread!
