Ingredients for Acorn Squash And Apples
- 1 medium acorn squash
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Tart Apples
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
How to Make Acorn Squash And Apples
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut acorn squash in half lengthwise, remove seeds, and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced), 1/4 cup raisins, and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
- Stir in 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, until apples are tender and the mixture is slightly thickened.
- Spoon the apple mixture evenly into the acorn squash halves.
- Place the filled squash halves in a baking dish and add 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the dish.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the squash is tender and the filling is bubbly. Check for doneness by inserting a fork into the squash; it should easily pierce the flesh.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
