How to Make Afro Dog
- In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, 1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper, 2 tablespoons chili powder, 1 tablespoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste), 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- Gently mix all ingredients until well combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the beef mixture into 6 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a hot dog shape. For a smoother shape, gently roll the meat into elongated cylinders.
- Wrap each Afro Dog individually in plastic wrap and freeze for at least 30 minutes (or until firm). This step helps maintain the shape during cooking.
- Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully add the frozen Afro Dogs and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
- Remove the Afro Dogs from the boiling water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the Afro Dogs on all sides for 2-3 minutes per side, until nicely browned and slightly crispy.
