How to Make Asian Beef Kabobs

  1. Trim excess fat from 1 lb of steak.
  2. Cut the steak into 1/4-inch thick strips, cutting across the grain.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup dry sherry, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon grated ginger.
  4. Place the beef strips and half of the marinade in a resealable plastic bag. Seal and ensure the beef is thoroughly coated.
  5. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes (longer is better!).
  6. Reserve the remaining marinade.
  7. Soak 16 bamboo skewers in water for 10 minutes to prevent burning.
  8. Remove the beef from the marinade and discard the used marinade.
  9. Thread beef strips and 1 cup of chopped green onions alternately onto the skewers.
  10. Preheat your grill or broiler. For broiling, position the rack so the kabobs are 3-4 inches from the heat source.
  11. Grill or broil the kabobs for 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness, turning once halfway through.
  12. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, brush the kabobs generously with the reserved marinade.
