Ingredients for Anzac Slice
- Rolled Oats
- Plain Flour

- Desiccated Coconut

- 1/2 cup golden syrup
- 125g (1/2 cup) butter
- Bicarbonate Of Soda
- 2 tablespoons hot water
How to Make Anzac Slice
- Preheat oven to 160°C (320°F).
- Grease and line a 20cm x 30cm (8" x 12") baking tin with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups rolled oats, 1 cup plain flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup chocolate chips (optional), and 1 cup desiccated coconut.
- In a small saucepan, melt 125g (1/2 cup) butter and 1/2 cup golden syrup over medium-low heat, stirring frequently.
- In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon baking soda and 2 tablespoons hot water. Add this mixture to the melted butter and golden syrup, stirring well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. The chocolate chips may melt slightly from the heat.
- Press the mixture firmly into the prepared tin. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Do not overbake, or the slice will become tough instead of chewy.
- Let the slice cool in the tin for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, cut into squares.
- For an extra decadent treat, melt 300g dark chocolate and pour it over the cooled slice.
