- Bring mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, add dry pectin, and stir well to combine. Continue to stir frequently to prevent sticking
- Simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the apple butter has thickened to your desired consistency, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. The apple butter is done when it passes the spoon test; spoon a small amount onto a plate, and if it doesn’t run, it’s ready!
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Transfer apple butter to sterilized jars, leaving ½ inch headspace.
- Seal jars and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (for pints) or 15 minutes (for quarts) to ensure safe preservation.
